Masterclass for conductors
The registration for the Masterclass of the Dohnanyi Academy has started.
The special significance of the Masterclass lies in its base: an outstanding orchestra that is known both in Hungary and abroad for its intensive manner of play, unique playing culture, high professional and human motivation and that will be available to the participants of the Class practically during the entire course. The Masterclass will not primarily be focused on improving technical skills but on acquiring deep knowledge, rested on understanding each minute detail of the pieces and the sheet music. Moreover, Gábor Hollerung will during the Class put considerable emphasis on the most important functions of a conductor’s activity, the conductor’s necessary and unnecessary activity and the mechanisms of communicating with the orchestra.
Some of the rehearsals will be held under the Class Leader’s direct leadership, accompanied by either a piano or the orchestra. The aim is that the most possible active participants of the Class should conduct as many as possible parts of the pieces and so expand their experience, based on their own or the others’ work. Each active participant may conduct in the concert. The participants will have to follow a pre-agreed schedule for the last rehearsals before the concert.
Pieces during the Masterclass:
Joseph Haydn: Symphony No. 96 in D major, “Miracle”
Antonín Dvořák: Symphony No. 8 in G major, Op. 88
Béla Bartók: Concerto for Orchestra
The participants are expected to be well prepared in each of these pieces.
Time of the Masterclass: 16-24 July 2016
